For example I have a bitch that is very creative when she lure courses, she’s cuts a lot, but she does run very fast. So when she has a run that is right on, it’s
terrific so of course I think it’s a much better run. But I have to remember the other courses and the other dog that were run that day.
The origin of our present day lure coursing is based on open field coursing where dogs chased jack rabbits. Dogs that are chasing jack rabbits run very differently than they do when they are lure coursing. Our course plans don’t have the turns that a jack
rabbit does. I think most of our dogs know that it’s only plastic and is a “game”.
Some play the game better than others.
The one thing to remember is that this is FUN. At the end of the day just ask your dog if he had a good time or what was the colour of the ribbon s/he received?
Would he want to do it again? The scores, placements, titles, trophies, top 20 placements are for us humans. I have continued to judge and attend trials for the past 33 years because it’s fun. I like being there with friends and having a good time and because my dogs enjoy it.
