My whippet Patty came to us when my father was determined not to have another breed in the house!!!! Larry and mother were always sneaking dogs in and out of his life. My IG was around 9 years old when they insisted that another dog was needed for the child to show because we would loose her any second. My parents bred afghan hounds and smooth dachshunds neither of which were too good for a young person to show in junior showmanship. Since I was such a star (in
their opinion), I desperately needed a whippet. He was talked into this finally and the IG died at 18. We had more than a few whippets by that time and no smooth dachshunds. We were never able to breed Patty as she was lost on a Westminster bus trip. We were able to aquire her sister Sunland Morningdale Fancy and bred her to Kirklea Sebastian (a Stoney Meadows Bold Venture son). From this litter, Longlesson Rapunzel was bred to Ch Pennyworth Would You Believe. Down from that came Longlesson Make Believe who was bred to Ch April’s No Foolin Around producing Longlesson Kirklea Aster, a bitch that is behind many of the great runners of today. Coming down from Ch Kirklea Banyan of Shaman , or Ch Kirklea Shaman Chablis.. daughter of Elysian Night Moves x Kirklea Pewter Plate also produced Ch Elysian Glorya Rejoice, grandmother of Ch Elysian A few Perrier, Ch Elysian A few April Showers.
Night Moves was bred to Elysian Escapade to produce Ch Elysian Like An Angel. Angel was Jim's first top winning black. She was bred twice. First to Ch Bitterblue Prairie Fire producing Elysian Like the Night and Applause Quest for Fire. These two in combination with the dog Ch Kirklea Banyan of Shaman are in
almost every top lure coursing dogs’ pedigree. Angel herself was never coursed as Jim did not approve of lure coursing, but his dogs ran in spite of him. Glenda Durance and her daughter Chris Watkins, had to sneak around to get Perry's LCM before he ever knew. He was never allowed to see the FAN Magazine because his dogs or their off spring were some of the greatest runners of their day.
