number of dogs is obvious it's to bred them for money, unfortunately. You see in the sporting magazines and on epupz whippet puppies advertised for as little as £200, these breeders often have 2 litters advertised at the same time. The conditions the pups are reared are far from suitable and more often than not they haven't been dew clawed. Some of the dogs are actually making 24” and 40lb in my opinion these are not whippets and I certainly wouldn't want a dog of that size in my kennel. A dog of that size would lose the early pace and would struggle to catch bolting rabbits in the fields I work my dogs in...
I have just put down a deposit on a nice bitch puppy that I will be collecting after Christmas. I'm really looking forward to picking her up and starting her training. She should be ready for a few days ferreting next season. Please have a look on my website http://www.mallyfieldwhippets.com I set up the website to promote the working whippet as a viable working dog. I will be adding a page for my new pup when I collect her.
I hope the article has given you more of an idea on how we work our whippets here in the UK.
Kind Regards
Paul
